Fundamental characteristics of high strength mullite castable
(1) High thermal strength. Using high-quality synthetic mullite material with high purity and low impurities, the matrix composition is strictly controlled to form mullite network skeleton structure, improve the thermal strength of castable, enhance the anti-fall function of castable, and extend the service life.
(2) Good thermal shock stability. Because the linear expansion coefficient of mullite is only about 5.7×10-6/ºC, the volume stability is good, and the thermal shock stability is good. Mullite is a rod-like crystal with various thermal expansion properties, so that a large number of micro-cracks are formed in the castable during the sintering process, which improves the toughness of castable, buffers the thermal stress and stops the expansion of cracks.
(3) The construction function is good. Because the castable contains small particle size powder, it is easy to fill the gap that the general fine powder is not easy to fill. When mixed with water, the surface of the micro-powder particles has electrostatic exclusion effect, which promotes the relaxation of the particles, and forms a slurry with the fine powder, which is dispersed between the aggregate particles and reduces the friction between the aggregate particles. Therefore, the castable flow is good, easy to effectively control the amount of water added. At the same time, the fine powder has a high appearance ability, which can make the surface of the particle absorb a certain amount of water, reduce the amount of free water in the castable, promote the condensation of the castable, and make the initial condensation time of the castable shorter. Generally speaking, only about 20 minutes is enough to harden the appearance of the castable, which can effectively ensure the continuity of the pouring construction. In addition, the amount of cement is less and the water requirement of cement hydration is less, which is also an important reason for improving the flow of castable.
Therefore, the high-strength mullite castable has high heat shock resistance and structural fall off resistance, good thermal shock stability, high soft point, low creep value at high temperature, high hardness and good chemical corrosion resistance.
